Canadian Miner

The Miner's main radar, located to the centre of her pilothouse (not the smaller one to the port side) appears to have been removed in Toronto. Can anyone confirm?

Just to add, the BGSU shots of the Menihek and Carol Lake are both 1961.

Re: Carryore Stack Change

Thanks Mike, that sounds right. I've got a slide of the Menihek Lake with the Hanna Star from 1960, and I know the Carol Lake came out with the star in 1960 as well, most other shots I've seen were either '59 or '60.

Carryore Stack Change

When did Carryore change stack colours from the original Hanna Mining design to the green maple leaf design, present on both the Nipigon and Carryore fleets?
Thanks

Re: Canadian Ship Condition Compared to US Ships.

If you compare average vessel lifespan of great lakes ships from 1950 on, American vessels win out easily. This is likely due, as you said to the wear and tear of constant lockage in the St. Lawrence and Welland Canal, as well as the larger quantity of Canadian lakers built in that time period ...

Tarantau Engine Room

Does anyone have a picture they could post of the Tarantau's engine room showing the boiler gauges, or main controls?

I've a large brass pressure gauge I acquired from IMS in Port Colborne, that was in the Tarantau's paint room that had been placed ashore. Right now I'm assuming the gauge is from ...

Scrapping Rumors

With rumors flying over the retirement and possible scrappings of Algontario, Algoisle, Algonorth, Agawa Canyon, Canadian Prospector, Canadian Leader, Canadian Miner, Gordon C. Leitch, coupled with the loss of the Algoport, how can SMT continue putting vessels out of service with nothing to take ...

Re: CSL's Str. Halifax

I'd think the CSL work regiment was part of the problem. Outward appearances also seem to show little budget for paint or maintenance, and I'm sure the cost of operating the turbine in comparison to their diesel boats is a factor as well. I don't know for certain, but I'd imagine she probably needs ...

Re: CSL's Str. Halifax

I'd heard she may be at the end of the line as well. However, if you look at pictures in the news of Sauniere and Halifax laid up, Halifax still has all her navigational and satellite equipment. Sauniere, which I believe is a sure bet for scrap has been stripped of all such equipment.
