Re: Herbert C. Jackson

From the AIS record I looked at, she was traveling at no more the half speed. It seems rather odd to me that on a "sea trial" run a vessel would be run so conservatively.

Does anyone have any insight? (no rumors or wild guesses please)

I noticed on AIS that the Blough seems to be anchored in Whitefish Bay near her grounding site. What's going on out there, perhaps a nostalgic layover?

Callaway pix News Photo Gallery (7/24/16)

I found it interesting that the after end decks are now pained grey. As the 4-8 Deckwatch (1971) I hosed down those "red deck" painted decks every morning that we were in "open waters". Ahhh, the good old days. WoW I'm getting old. LOL

Re: dirty deck

The days of hosing down the deck right after departing the dock seems to be over. I know MI has very stringent regulations about hosing the decks. It's just another example of the "good 'ol days" being LONG Gone.

When I sailed, back in the '70's, it was "first come, first served". I 'assume' that is still in effect today.

That's PSS President Donald Potts in the center and Charles Haskill, president of GLEW at left. In regards to rivet vs. welding discussions held in this forum some time ago, notice the riveti...

That's where the motors and pumps for the hydraulics are located. Her gates were hydraulically operated. The laundry room was located in the focsle below the windlass. Isn't the area below the Windlass Room referred to as a 'forepeak'? An area where the anchor chains (Chain Locker) are stowed ? The...

Wouldn't that actually be 'the dunnage room' in most boats?

Callaway was Better <<wink>> I always heard everyone on the Anderson said they were the best:) P.S. Standuffer, when were you on the Callaway? I sailed on the Cason J. Callaway (deck hand & deck watch) from June 1971 through June 1972. In June of 1972, most of the 'homestead'-ed crew of the Cal...
