Re: Algoma Innovator Loading in Goderich, Ontario
Many years ago, the Cleveland Salt Mine wanted to stockpile salt across to the other side of the narrow channel from the mine. They chartered Calumet (Myron C. Taylor) to perform the transfer. Calumet tied up below the loader, with the boom out over the opposite bank. The salt went into Calumet's ...

Re: James B. Lyons /Emmet J. Carey sandsucker
My photos show that Emmett J. Carey and F. M. Osborne were scrapped May-June 2016 at the north end of the old Diamond Alkalai Stone Dock in Fairport.
EPA had stopped sand dredging, rendering these boats unusable.

Re: James B. Lyons /Emmet J. Carey sandsucker
Yes, the Carey was scrapped in Fairport, I believe around 2016, along with the F. M. Osborne, at the north end of the old Diamond Alkalai Stone Dock, next to the old Fairport ship repair slip.
I have pix and some video of the process, haven't had time to post on Youtube yet.

Re: Winter 2019 Great Lakes Salt Runs
Calumet has loaded salt at least twice in Fairport this week. Apparently very short runs, possibly to Cleveland or Erie. In the past, salt has been taken from Fairport to the old Cleveland Furnace dock.

Re: Cleveland Drydock
I walked around the old drydock at the head of the old river a couple years ago (the year they were constructing the replacement W 3rd St drawbridge on a barge). The drydock door frames (sills?) are still there. It is now accessed thru the Channel Park Marina. Worth a look.

J. H. Hillman Jr. photos
The shot in Historical Perspectives of Hillman under the Huletts is at the B+LE dock in Conneaut. As far as I know, Conneaut was the only port with 5 Hulettts. You can also make out the B+LE logo on the cars.
