Re: Winter Storage Cargo

Some might recall, sometime in the late 1990's. the John Sherwin being towed from Superior Wi. to Milwaukee for grain load, to be stored at grain elevator in South Chicago on the Calumet River. The next spring after her unload, she was towed to Sturgeon Bay for the future potential of repowering an...

I would think the Sykes and Alpena at least would be the best candidates for conversion if the time ever came?

If you recall the Anderson spent several months in dry dock in 2019 having substantial steel work done.

Long term and possibly scrap layup remains the: Ryerson Sherwin Blough CTC 1 Ingelehart Calloway There's been some rumblings that Munson, McCarthy, Lee A and Anderson isn't far from the chomping block within the next two seasons but that is second hand rumor. Munson and Lee A? Those 2 have had a co...

Of the remaining 4 active steamers (at least active in 2023), has there been any chatter of any of the 4 being converted to diesel power?

Was the current escanaba ore dock built on the footprint of a prior chute style dock?

It is not a cement carrier, it was in its prior form before conversion for Great Lakes service

Likely because it is the most recent and there was a song.

Threads are often hijacked with another subject thrown into the mix. Instead of starting a different post about the coal movement, it was just tacked onto the Sykes thread.

Re: MV Presque Isle

Unless the tug is in need of serious repairs or waiting for some specific part, I don't see a 5 year survey taking over 6 weeks. As you said, this is very telling as to GLF being able to meet the current demand with the Presque Isle out of service not to mention no work being done to bring the Call...

Ryerson….Again

Saw a rumor mentioned that the Ryerson was going to be placed back into one of the long term lay up slips in Superior. Is that rumor, or possibly true?

Hard to say.wait and see. If she is withdrawn from service I imagine the Compass, ex Adam E ex Roger Keyes, will be upgraded and kept around awhile longer. The HOGS caterpillar diesel is getting a tad old now. The vessel that started lower lakes towing haz had a great career for 30 or so years afte...

Re: Ryerson

I think that you will find that the deal for tje boat s still very ,much alive. It appears that the pellet demand and steel demand have gone soft for Agoma. Until that changes, it would be foolish to start the charter. Some work continues on the boat. The only people who seem to have given up on th...

Several seasons ago the boom began to buckle as was quite evident in photos during her last few seasons. Made her look quite terrible as far as I'm concerned. If anyone needed a boom, there are several better options available sitting at MRC right now that are not buckled and sagging.

Re: Ryerson

I would suspect the actual survey of the hull is not really the issue she would have in returning to service. Getting the engine room operational is going to be the huge task, and that does not need the drydock to happen. Recent photos still show the portable boiler on her deck is active, so clearly...
