Re: Algonorth sold off lakes
Quoted from one of the Facebook groups that I follow .... Tanker ALGONORTH has been sold (to Furetank). Currently on her way to Kalundborg, Denmark. Next, she will be drydocked, reflagged and given her new name. Stay tuned. Algonorth, was built in 2008 at Tuzla Shipbuilding in Turkey as RAMIRA. Algo...

Re: Last Ship of the Season (Welland Canal)
Yes, the last ship to pass through the canal was Algoma Guardian. She left the dock in Hamilton about 23:00 on Jan 7, entered Port Weller piers @02:04 on Jan 8, and was out the Port Colborne piers @12:29. She was headed to Goderich. [Times based on her track on the Marine Traffic app.] Two ships hav...

Layup List Updates
CSL's Whitefish Bay is not laid up in Toronto. She was unloading sugar at Redpath. She then went to Oshawa. She is now entering Lock 8 (14:58 Jan 7) with a destination of Port Colborne.
NACC Alicudi is on the Lakes for the winter. Apparently she has replaced NACC Capri.

Personally I'm wondering if she stayed on the Lakes to visit a dry dock. Last year NACC Argonaut layed-up in Toronto. Maybe it's Alicudi's turn.

Re: Mark W. Barker Build Cost
How are all the new Chinese and Croatian built ships working out in terms of quality and reliability? May still be too early to tell. The first of CSL's Trillium Class was delivered in 2012 (Baie Comeau). The Algoma Equinox was delivered in 2013. I'm not aware of any big issues, but I'm not really ...

Re: Loading Eqipment
I knew a guy that worked for Caterpillar in Hamilton. Every winter they would go to some of the ships laid up in Hamilton and perform thorough maintenance on the loaders (or whatever) on those ships. Sorry I don't think he knew any ship names, and don't recall what kind of equipment was on board. Th...

Re: new discusion board
From my point of view, there have recently been three Boatnerd forums. 1) the old one. No longer available. Replaced by #3. 2) the new discussion forum. Little used, many seem to dislike it. I thought it was OK. Still available. 3) the newest discussion forum. This one!! One day I thought I was goin...

Re: Tug Sarah Dann/Barge?
For those who use Facebook and belong to the Great Lakes Shipping Channel group ... Captain Vautier of the Radcliffe R Latimer posted a picture of Sarah Dann and her barge Weeks 2222 above Lock 7 showing the two pieces of steel(?) that the barge is carrying. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1015...

Re: Tug Sarah Dann/Barge?
The Moran Iron Works October newsletter mentions a "huge machine base. At just under 200 tons this will be completed in the next two weeks and transported to our port for shipping by barge to its destination on the East Coast." This could be the item on the barge. https://us11.campaign-arc...

I'm sure that she has multiple life rafts. In can see one in a picture on Marine Traffic. However, the large lifeboat that could sit on the rails at the rear of the ship has been removed, as it is not required. Several lakers have also had this lifeboat removed. CSL's Trillium and Algoma's Equinox s...

Re: What is going on with the salty Redhead?
The Boatnerd salty page provides some info on Redhead's travels (or non-travels). A quick summary ... She docked at Johnstown on June 7. She hasn't visited Cleveland yet. She docked in Port Colborne on July 13. Before docking at Port Colborne, she spent quite a bit of time in three anchorages (Hamil...

Re: Did anyone see the Viking Octantis this morning?
The current cruise is the first Milwaukee to Toronto cruise. OK, I checked the AIS page yesterday evening and the Viking Octantis was docked at the Detroit Marine Terminal. Gone this morning so on it's way to Toronto. Point Pelee today (May 12), then Port Colborne(Niagara Falls), and finally Toronto.

Reports, apparently originating from MRC itself, indicates Ojibway is finished. Supposed to sail to Port Colbourne under its own power from Sorel, but two McKeil tugs are on Lake Ontario heading to Sorel right now. Any updates? It has been reported than the two tugs are to bring the tug MANGYSTAU-2...

Re: Canadian National palns sale f Great Lakes fleett.
Wonder if a Canadian company would buy the fleet to get their hands on some well maintained thousand footers and smaller boats? With inflation running high, the cost of new builds in China must be going up. GLF could be a bargain. If I understand correctly, only one of the ships can go through the ...
