Re: Algoma Compass
Yeah, I saw it up there this afternoon. The Bay is still completely open and evidently the ice were it is docked was thin enough that they were able to just drive into it. The stern is open water, but at least 75% of the rest of the ship is in the ice. (and there were a couple of ice fishermen set ...

Re: Algoma Compass
I see that the Compass is well out into Lake Huron. I am a little puzzled though. I realize that the position showing on the AIS map as well as on Marine Traffic is well over 3 hours old, but it seem to be quite far to the west to be heading to Owen Sound. Also, I don't see any icebreakers anywhere ...

Re: Algoma Compass
Just out of curiosity, how do they deal with a frozen cargo like that? Do they have to wait until the weather warms up? Thanks in advance for any info.

Risley in Lake Erie
I see that the Samuel Risley is headed out into Lake Erie. Does anyone know if it is going to free the Manitoulin? The Bristol Bay evidently wasn't able to do the job and is now in Buffalo. Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Algoma Compass Layup??
Thanks for the replies. I did see where the Compass left Thunder Bay and went through the Soo Locks last night, heading for Detroit. I'm wondering if when they got to Owen Sound on Saturday, the ice was too thick for them to get in (the Bay is open but the port was iced over) and there were no ...

Algoma Compass Layup??
Does anyone know why the Algoma Compass switched its lay-up location to Thunder Bay? As far as I know it was in Owen Sound on Saturday morning, which according to Boatnerd's lay-up page and local media it was staying for winter lay-up. Drove though the port this afternoon and there was no sign of it ...

Ships stuck in ice question
Has there ever (or at least in the last 30 years) been a ship that has been stuck in the ice, unable to be freed until spring? Someone I was talking to mentioned that they thought that they remembered seeing a story online 10-15 years ago about a Great Lakes ship that was trapped in ice and had to ...

Pierre Radisson
I see that the Pierre Radisson is upbound near the mouth of the Detroit River this morning. Does anyone know where it is headed? Last week (3/29) there was an article (actually a link to a CTV News video) on the news page that said it would be going to Georgian Bay to break out Midland. The Risley ...

Owen Sound / Midland Icebreaking
Does any one know if the Samuel Risley has been in to Midland yet? It seems like it has been sitting off Beckwith and Christian Islands for quite a while.
Also, when is the Risley expected to arrive in Owen Sound to break out the harbor. The local news had said that it was expected sometime on ...
