Re: Boatnerd news

It looks like there was a problem with some browsers. It was working for me but not for some others. That's been fixed now.

Lee A. Tregurtha and Kaye E. Barker were both renamed on May 13, 1989. Which one was first to depart on her first trip?

Re: Octantis in Duluth

She uses dynamic positioning thrusters to keep her in place. Anchors scratch and muddy the paintwork.

Re: Algoma Bear

My guess it is related to branding/name recognition. Algoma is the named of the company so that's what they may want people to see.

Re: Incorrect Blough Information May 14, 2022 News Page

I have removed that information from the Boatnerd story. Nothing we can do about the original comment though. Sounds like the shipyard guy didn't know what he was talking about.

Re: Herbert C. Jackson Question

Good eye. That is above the porthole a mate would look out to check the progress of the anchor when it is being brought up. It will protect him from any falling ice. They want to avoid injuries or deaths such as befell an ASC mate last winter.

Don't forget about the many vessels 78 feet wide. The Corps has time and time again refused them passage through the Mac though technically they would fit.

Re: James R Barker Whistle

if you have this year's Know Your Ships you can read the story about the Barker's long salutes, which he reserves for family at Duluth, the Soo and DeTour. Capt Newland might not be on right now, or no family members were present when the vessel saluted.
