City tax records show that it is still owned by the Lakehead Pipeline Company, LTD. (Probably a subsidiary of Enbridge).

Re: soo coal dock

Green's Marine Directory of the Great Lakes, 1938 edition says the dock (Pittsburgh Coal Co at the time) had two McMyler "whirlies" with 75 foot booms and 2 ton clamshell buckets and one McMyler "whirley" with a 48 foot boom and 1.5 ton bucket. Overall unloading capacity was 1800...

Re: Hollyhock

As BigRiver said, it will be the Sequoia. However, the Sequoia might not get to the lakes until 2024, depending on how things go at the shipyard in Curtis Bay.

Re: Loading Eqipment

The McKeil barge Huron Spirit also has a similar system using end loaders to push bulk material to the self-unloader grates. However, being a deck barge, the end loaders and unloading grates are on the main deck, and not in a hold. And of course the barge often handles non-bulk cargos, like steel co...

Re: new discusion board

Boatnerd's users spoke with their actions. For a variety of reasons, users did not like the Wordpress-based discussion board. Based on where they post, they appear to prefer to use this older phpBB format. From a moderator's viewpoint, the Wordpress discussion board would receive 100 or so spam mess...

Re: Ship Steel Deliveries to Bay Shipbuilding

The Ahnapee and Western Railway, which connected Sturgeon Bay to the national rail network stopped serving Sturgeon Bay in 1968. So if any steel does come by rail, it would have to use another mode from Green Bay or vicinity to the shipyard.

Re: Tug Sarah Dann/Barge?

The Moran Iron Works facebook page had a few photos of them loading components on the barge at Roger City recently. One of their recent newsletters mentioned that they were fabricating components for a movable bridge in Virginia. But the components don't really look like bridge components, so I have...

Re: Tug Sarah Dann/Barge?

Are you sure it delivered something? The photos I saw of it online coming up the Seaway sure looked like the barge was empty. And Moran Iron Works was hauling stuff to the port from Onaway in the past few days. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10166528383320398&set=pcb.10160428602378656

Re: How do you find out what container a tracked item ends up on

So if your item has a tracking number, it tells you the basics; where it’s last been scanned and it’s ultimate destination… but is there a way to determine which container your item ends up in along its travel stages or even which cargo ship? I’ve seen online that you can track cargo ships in real ...

Re: DTE Speeds Coal Exit

In a related question, how come the DTE powerplant's dock in Monroe was never dredged to a full depth of 28+ feet? Its not just the dock area. Western Lake Erie is shallow so you have to go out roughly 10 miles to find 28 feet of water. The USACE project depth for Monroe 21 feet, a number that only...

Re: wave height buoys

How deep is the water where these wave buoys are located and how far from shore are they? Do all great lakes have them? Thank you in advance. I think the map below shows the location of most buoys on the Great Lakes that measure and report wave heights. If you zoom in at particular locations you ca...

Re: American Spirit at Algoma

When will Algoma no longer need taconite? Past articles stated that the two electric arc furnaces are expected to come online in 2024 with a transition period thereafter. Initially they were hoping for 70% of the production to be from the EAF's by 2026. However, I think that initial estimate for a ...

Re: wave height buoys

How can you mesure wave hights If you are wondering how buoys measure wave heights, they use electrical sensors called accelerometers. They measure the vertical acceleration of the buoy. And if you ever took a calculus class, you may recall that if you integrate acceleration once, you get velocity,...

Intregrity / G.L. Ostrander

The ATB Intregrity/G.L. Ostrander and the Alpena cement plant were shown for a couple of brief moments on the NBC Nightly News Tuesday Oct 18th but not for good reasons. Stock footage of various Lafarge facilities around the world was used to illustrate a news item about Lafarge pleading guilty to s...
