Re: Ryerson
I would suspect the actual survey of the hull is not really the issue she would have in returning to service. Getting the engine room operational is going to be the huge task, and that does not need the drydock to happen. Recent photos still show the portable boiler on her deck is active, so clearly...

Re: American mariner
Is it just me, or does Fraser seem to take a lot longer with dry dock work than they used to? Seems like the last few winters, they have 1 boat use it and it is for the entire lay up season.

Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
Rand/LLT is now joining the group of not painting in dry dock now. Historically they had always been good about that during the 5 year, but last year the Saginaw emerged from dry dock looking like garbage, and now this year Manitowoc has done the same. Calumet is next in Toledo I believe and I'm sur...

Yup, it appears McCarthy will be going a decade + now without getting cleaned up. Paint might not haul cargo, but it can help protect the steel from corrosion.

Re: Ryerson
This is likely going to be the make or break point in time for the Ryerson. I'd bet if she doesn't make it out now, she never will because of the work that will be required.

Re: Ryerson
And where did this news come from? Reliable source or just rumor mill? Maybe Jerry from Duluth is correct. Maybe it will run, who knows? Maybe inspection for sale? I’m skeptical of the boilers conditions. Will certainly need lots of $ upgrades. Just wait n see as I said. When it’s under power to a ...

Probably doesn't mean anything, but recently the president of CML posted a photo to social media of himself inside the Ryerson pilothouse. Again, likely means nothing, but I kinda enjoy hearing peoples rumors about the Ryerson, so fire away!

Re: Ryerson
Ive never been one for rumors as my years on here show but talked to a friend yesterday off the Sykes and he said there is rumor circulating around Cliffs/CML about the Ryerson. They are looking at possibly modifying it to carry the HBI product coming out of Ironvile. It would remain gearless and h...

If they are looking for a storage spot, I'm surprised they would take her to Escanaba to the ore dock. Doesn't CN own that?

Re: Roger blough activity
It has been suggested that she will be going to be tied up at the CN dock in Escanaba. That would eliminate the docking fees.

You know that as fact for all 3 of these? Ironically I'd say the Ryerson is the safest of the these 3.Guest wrote: ↑October 9, 2022, 8:24 pm Unfortunately the Ryerson, Blough, and Sherwin will never sail again. The Callaway will be modified and will live another day just not in her current form.

Re: Valor And Manistee
Valor has been in layup limbo for years how much does this cost the shipping companies every year? Should they not have just scrapped this ship long ago? Same situation with the Sherwin. The Sherwin is located at a dock which is also owned by Interlake, so since 2009 she had had no docking fees. Ob...

Her new paint was from dry docking in 2020, after which it only sailed 2 months. She has not had new paint since laid up.
