Just a thought that Green Bay may have something to add to this conversation.

Re: Boat Watching in Toledo
Agreed across the board. Great job by the photographers, and a great answer from our Guest in Point Place. The best boatwatching I have found for all of the Maumee River is from the deck of my own boat. Cullen Park was mentioned, it is a public launch ramp. Same for Rossford Marina ($10 launch fee) ...

Incredibly shallow and rocky at that location. Absolutely no room outside of the channel. Any word on damage?

I'm sure Paul L. could chime in but it is part of celebrating the 100th anniversary of her christening. ...and I'm betting the cash donation from the Schoonmaker family didn't hurt.
She looks great. Nice work to Paul and the whole team.

I can't speak to the schedule but work completed so far (from visual inspection) is the forward cabins are white. Equipment above the bridge still needs to be prepped and painted. A bit of the afterdeck cabins have started to receive paint. There is a barge along with scaffolding, generators and oth...

Re: Best places to eat
This reminds me of one of those "Man vs. Food" challenges. A few of us gents came up with a couple a few years ago for several ports. Toledo: Tony Packo's M.O.A.D Soo Locks: Clydes Big C I forgot the others but they were monumental and delicious. Anyone care to post some suggestions? Maybe...

Re: CAI Day
Tom, you can have the electric chainsaw and weed whacker... you just need some backups for them in case the power goes out. I'd suggest Husque Varna! No mixing oil...makes the small one cylinder internal combustion engine a little, easy to use Dynamo!

CAI Day
Wow, where has the year gone? It seems like only yesterday we were tallying up our appreciation for one of the greatest inventions of mankind: the internal combustion engine. Today is your last shopping day before your counts must be tallied and report. Violet - you better get shopping! Hummers are ...

Re: *Earth Hour*
Sorry Lady Pirate - I was a bit busy wiring up new lights in the renovated "Man Cave" of my humble estate. Added another 2,400 watts of decorative lighting - and we tested them all during "Light Up the Night" hour. What a fine invention Mr. Edison brought to us in the incandescen...

Re: Happy Cylinder Appreciation Index
Sorry Violet... they do have to be fully functioning cylinders to count towards your CAI. Remember this is in tribute to the contributions of the internal combustion enginer... all the good it has brought to our society. We made a special exception for steam engines since they still have the basic e...

Re: Edward L. Ryerson
One would also have to consider the operating costs of Fast Eddy. She is a steamer and as such has a premium attached not only in fuel, but in labor. Warning: The fuel statement is an assumption - someone out there in Boarnerd land probably has the actual data on fuel consumption per ton per mile of...

The Lights are up and running
Sorry all, I've been away for awhile. Busy, busy times through the elections in November which led right to put up the Christmas lights. So for anyone in or driving through the Toledo area, please stop on by Rossford and enjoy 58,000+ lights synchronized to music. www.TheAgelessChildsChristmas.com f...

Cleaning the lock
I read with great interest the news story of them cleaning the Canadian Recreational lock. Strange debris on the floor of the lock huh? If anyone is up there, can they grab my combo fuel cap wrench/funnel made out of aluminum and duct tape? I dropped it two years ago while cruising through.

Re: Jones Act repeal
For this discussion, the repeal of the Jones Act can and should be done as it was done for Hurricane Katrina - in direct relation to the efforts of the disaster at hand. We are not talking about a blanket repeal... that takes an effort of Congress since they are the legislative body. The Executive B...

Re: Jones Act repeal
Political discussion are often messy affairs. We'll just have to agree to disagree. Look up George Soros and Petrobras. Tie it in with a $2 Billion dollar US Federal Grant to Petrobras for deep water drilling.

The response to the leak has been pathetic. The Jones Act is hurting these efforts. http://blog.heritage.org/2010/06/30/mor ... o-do-list/
