Dock Upgrades, Detroit

Unread post by Mr Link »

I was in Detroit recently and saw that someone is upgrading the former Morton Salt dock property at Fort St. on the Rouge River. The property has been repaved, and a large open ended storage shed constructed. There were also parts to a large conveyor on site.

I suspect that it will be used once again for salt storage, with the salt coming by boat. But there is a possibility it will be used for other incoming or outgoing material. According to Detroit property records, Morton no longer owns the property. The current owner is Mullens Dock Investments.

Morton used to ship salt over by boat from Windsor and store it there on the slab under tarps, but I don't think they have done that in a number of years. Ironically, the dock is only about 3000 feet from the active Detroit Salt Company mine.
