The design for the Tadoussac was completed in 1967 and construction began in 1968. At that time, the loop-belt system that Stephens-Adamson invented was still in development at their Belleville, Ontario plant.

For the Tadoussac, a series of inclined belts through the engine-room were utilized to elevate material to the boom. As a result, a collecting-conveyor is located forward of the engine-room bulkhead, which collects material from the port and centreline belts and transfers it to the inclined belt running on the starboard side of the engine-room. The starboard tunnel conveyor belt transfers directly to the inclined belt. At the stern, a further transfer belt is arranged athwartship across the stem (over the steering gear), and another inclined belt conveyor running forward from port to centereline carries the material to the 250-foot boom.

A loop-belt couldn't be retrofitted to the Tadoussac because of how the existing conveying system is designed into the stern, and putting one forward of the engine-room bulkhead means a loss of capacity. Yes, the design is less than ideal, but for that time it was better than using bucket elevators in then existing builds (and retrofits) and less costly to maintain than the system used on the Quetico which used a bucket elevator and a retailer belt, the later of which was difficult to repair.

Still has the original incline system. Belt runs to the stern. Cross belt. then another incline belt to the boom.

Does anybody know what type of unloading elevator system the CSL Tadoussac has? The exterior appearance resembles an incline belt system, but some sources have claimed she has a loop belt.

When constructed did she originally have an incline belt system? The first publicized loop belt installation on the Great Lakes was the J.W. McGiffin of 1972 that I know of.

If she has since been converted to a loop-belt, when was that work done? Was it taken care of during her mid-life refit in 2001?
