Rule 5-Look-out Every vessel shall at all times maintain a proper look-out by sight and hearing as well as by all available means appropriate in the prevailing circumstances and conditions so as to make a full appraisal of the situation and of the risk of collision.

Are forward lookouts on US ships in the rivers an insurance requirement or just standard business practice in the industry? As Canadian ships apparently do not require forward lookouts in the rivers I would assume that there are no USCG regulations requiring these for any ships operating in US waterways.

A few years ago noticed a small building on the bow of the aft enders. I always thought it was control housing but im not sure. I would also like to know what its real name is.
