In the period after the building of the bridge in 1939, the Savannah was assigned to Buffalo and the Burton to Cleveland, so I suspect the vessel shown is the latter. That is Ohio 611, and the bridge has been named the Lofton Henderson Memorial Bridge since 1991. Route 611 uses Henderson Road in Lorain.

That would be highway 611 and it's approaching the Lorain Works of US Steel.

The Bridge is the Lofton Henderson Memorial Bridge and it is Henderson Drive and State Route 611.

Ohio 611/Henderson Dr crosses the river on that bridge just downstream of US Steel.

Wait, what highway number is that high level bridge and how far up the river is that USACE dredge?

I believe that is a depiction of one of the 1904 built hopper dredges that served the US Army Corps of Engineers. Probably the Savannah or the Burton since they served on Lake Erie for many years.

See the links in this old post for photos. The profiles of the dredges did change over the years as additional cabin space was added.

Lorain Ohio Postcard Question

Unread post by Guest »

On the following postcard depicting the Central High Level Bridge at Lorain, Ohio, from what looks like the 1920s-1930s does anyone have any idea of what boat is depicted in the river? It doesn't look like a Great Lakes vessel so I'm wondering if the postcard publisher didn't add a ship from elsewhere to make the scene more interesting.
