Per AIS, it has spent the past 24 hours or so doing a search pattern north and west of Whitefish Point. So who knows what is doing. Could be salvage related, shipwreck hunting or scientific research.

It moored at the MCM dock. I am leaning towards use on the new lock project

Unless it has changed hands recently, it is owned by Northstar Marine out of Clermont NJ. https://www.northstarmarineinc.com/

No idea what it is here for. Two guesses would be a) something to do with the Soo Locks dredging project or more likely b) something to do with the replacement and removal of the power cables under the Straits. However if that is the case you would think it would stop short of the Soo unless it needs to visit the small shipyard at the Soo for some reason.

I'm curious. Time will tell, unless someone has some inside information they are willing to share.

Any idea why this utility vessel in enroute to the Soo? Owner?
