So they run the five ASC 1000 footers with a reduced crew, too. I wonder how many guys work on each one? The American Spirit has two belts in the cargo hold. Maybe they work the wheelsmen 6 and 6.

Hedge fund AIP is the moneyman behind Rand Logistics, they financed Rands purchase of ASC after GATX exited as owner. Once merged GRN, LLT and ASC separate operating companies under Rand Logistics.

The bareboat charter of the five smaller vessels from ASC to GRN was a cost cutting measure relating to union agreements, or so I'm told.

While there are three divisions, Rand Logistics is now I believe the real owner of all three divisions? Earlier this year, Grand River Navigation either chartered or leased 5 smaller ASC ships. The 5 vessels involved were the American Courage, American Mariner, H. Lee White, Sam Laud and the John J. Boland. So far the only noticeable change with them is the stack logo is no longer ASC colors and logo but now Grand River colors but no logo just the colors only. As for the ASC 1,000 footers, no changes so far to any of them as of yet!

The company has three divisions, one in Canada (Lower Lakes Towing) and the other two in the U.S (Grand River Navigation and American Steamship).

Are the old asc 1000 footers and smaller river boats owned by a canadien company and have crews from Canada?
