Ojibway Supply Boat

Unread post by Guest »

I have watched the Ojibway supply boat meet with ships of the GLF and Interlake fleets. I believe that when this vessel was originally built in 1945 it served only ships of the Pittsburgh Steamship Company fleet (later USS, GLF). At the time it was built, that fleet would have numbered well over 50 ships. With such a large fleet was this the only supply ship in service at the time for Pittsburgh Steamship at the locks? If so, it must have been very busy as it is likely that several of the fleet's ships would be in the St. Marys River simultaneously during any given day during the shipping season.

Also, did its operation interfere with the ferry that used to run between the two Sault Ste. Maries?
