I finally got the scoop from my brother, who was on the Beeghly. The Beeghly was having problems with their unloading system. The PRT had 2 belt maintenance people on board. They were able to find a quiet place to do the transfer so they did it. Otherwise, they would have had to wait for the guys to get off at the Soo and then make their way back to Duluth.

Tregurtha/Beeghly Personnel/Equipment transfer while Underwa
What's the back story?
The Tregurtha and Beeghly transferred personnel and equipment while underway at 1345 on May 30th. The Tregurtha sailed between the Keweenaw Pt and Gull Rock Lighthouse, made a turn to port, reduced speed, and had the Beeghly come along her stbd side while in the lee
of Manitou Island. It was pretty impressive to watch these maneuvers of ships of this size. As the Tregurtha maintained enough way for steerage, the Beeghly slowly came along side. A gangplank from the Tregurtha was sent down to the Beeghly and a man scampered across in a rat like fashion.
The gangplank was then pulled and the sterns of the two started to converge enough for Tregurthas deck crane to drop a large crate on deck of Beeghly. After the transfer the Beeghly thrusted off, did a long
turn to stbd to threaded the Keweenaw Pt and Gull Rock Light to head
up bound while the Tregurtha headed down bound. I'd have sent pictures along but I left the camera on the boat.
Any idea what this was about?
