Ice is the reason for the escort. Griffon sailed east bound this am for Port Colborne. Penobscot Bay may take the Algocanada back up.

Why does a ship need an escort, ice? weather? Thanks!

Griffon escorted the Algocanada into Cleveland and they are likely anchored waiting for the return escort to the St. Clair River.

CCGS Griffon

OK I'm not much of a boater, but I do enjoy watching the boat traffic on Lake Erie. Last night my husband and I watch CCGS Griffon just hang out in one place on the Lake all evening. Then about 1 or 2 in the morning it took off! All the lights were on. it was a wonderful sight to watch! It seemed closer to shore then any of the other vessels that travel through but it must be extremely awful out there. What would they be doing? Why be out on an awful, cold, windy blistery night?

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks
