Only one daylight passage today, but who's complaining? Gusty winds out of the SW made for choppy water on the river.

The annual Spring migration of ships toward the Soo Locks and on to Lake Superior ports is picking up, as you can see by today's photos.

To all who plan to travel to the Soo for opening day of the Locks, go safe and stay healthy. Indiana Harbor should be in the parade waiting to lock through.

With less than a week to go before the opening of the Soo Locks, daily traffic is increasing on the St. Clair River.

There's been a steady flow of tankers this week, but tomorrow may bring Kaye E. Barker down-bound, in daylight hours.

Another day of sunny skies, blustery winds and cool temperatures, calling people out to enjoy the day. For me, it was seeing another vessel on the river.

A sunny, hazy day with temperatures in the low 60s and a brisk wind out of the south, which added texture to the water and made standing steady a challenge for me.

Two sunny days with two ships and two salutes! Maybe Bookworm has retired but the Canon PowerShot SX400 IS is just warming up to the action -- and I have to go where it takes me!

Denny, thanks for adding the names of the hidden vessels in layup at Sarnia.

I too second that Darryl! There are actually "four" lakers in the photo that Bookworm posted from the Sarnia North Slip that are laid-up for the Winter. The Manitoulin and the Cuyahoga are both at the South End of the North Slip, while the Saginaw and Robert S. Pierson are in lay-up at the North End of the North Slip. With the Manitoulin rafted alongside the Cuyahoga, it's a bit hard to see and tell the Cuyahoga is alongside the Manitoulin from views and pictures of the two as one just barely sees the stern of the Cuyahoga in lay-up at the North Slip. The Atlantic Huron is also laid-up at the Cargill Grain Elevator in Sarnia and the Algoma Hansa is at the Sidney Smith Dock in Sarnia where it has been since September 2020. Again, great photos of the lay-up fleet in Sarnia Dawn and nice photos too of Algoma Sault as well.

A gorgeous day with clear, sunny skies but a deceptively bone-chilling wind. Still, the call to the river overcame that and the photographer in me went to the Bluewater Bridges.

South of St. Clair and on to Algonac. Ice gets trapped in the St. Clair Flats and creates an ice jam that backs up and requires US and Canadian Coast Guard ice breakers to get and keep it moving into Lake St. Clair.

Today brought Bookworm out of retirement momentarily to watch and photograph a bit of action on the (free-flowing) St. Clair River. Unfortunately, gulls enjoying a free ride on little ice floes went by too fast to capture!
