They worked in shipyards and supplier factories plus some shipped as cooks stewards porters etc

Yes, my great aunt worked at Amship and River Rouge shipyard in 1943 through 1946. She then went to work at a paint factory in Flint that was still hiring women with industrial experience.

During World War II it has been well documented how women entered the workforce traditionally employed by men. Is there any historical evidence that this practice occurred within the maritime fleets on the Great Lakes?
