You know, I think I saw the Anderson in Duluth too. Isn't it out on Superior also? I wondered, Why did you daughter pick the Anderson as her favorite ship? Any particular reason, or just because?

Hello Kitten, The HCJ should be leaving Superior around noon (EDT) today
5/5, stopping for fuel at Murphy in Duluth, and proceeding to Buffalo. They are scheduled for Duluth, with coal around he 10th, not sure if grain after that. Keep up the good work!

Hi Kitten, My family and I go to Cedar Point 2 to 3 times a year. I can always count on seeing the Jackson coming in while we are there. I have several pics of them coming in taken from the park. I also occasionally see the Anderson (my 11 year old daughters favorite boat). My whole family are true boatnerds! We watch cams all the time and just spend a lot of time on the links page of this site on the web cams and you will have a ton of fun. My 11 year old likes to track the boats. She watches the cams and then tracks them to see where they are and where they go. She made an Excel spreadsheet on her computer and she will just sit for hours looking at cams and tracking! I would rather her do that on the internet then some other things!

We have our semi annual trip planned to camp at the Soo this July. We have river front sites at the Aune-Osborn Campground by Mission Point at the Soo. we will be there for a full week with the lawn chairs out, scanner on and the Know Your Ships book in hand. We can't wait!

This is a great site. Ask all the questions you might have. Everyone is nice and friendly!

No live cams here. Most people in this town don't realize that ships still come here anymore except for , like, me, and.... one other guy. I think most of the boatnerds in this town drive in from somewhere else and then leave when the boat is gone.

To B & B, I beleive the Jackson is going to Buffalo from Superior with grain. You said you wanted to know. Are there cams in Buffalo?

Hi B & B, He only knows they are loading coal at Sandusky now to go to Zug Island. Said he didn't know where they would be going next.
They were headed to one place some days ago to pick up a load, before they got there, their orders changed.
Will let you know if he says.

Wow, Jackson huh? Next time you talk to him, could you ask him if they have any upcoming trips with grain to Buffalo? They were supposed to load in Duluth last week, but they never did. Thanks.

Hi Steve, Actually I will be glad to tell you what boat my friend is on. He's on The Herbert C. Jackson. I track them most, but have been watching as many as I can. They are all beautiful. Hopefully I can continue to learn more about them. Until meeting him online, I had no idea. Thanks for asking.

Dave F. I was referring to the empty coal hoppers when they catch a lot of wind, but a good crosswind will play heck with just about any train.
Kitten, just out of curiousity, can you tell us what boat your friend is on?

Hey Steve, is this effect the same with empty open hoppers and empty covered hoppers? The covered hoppers are taller, but I would think the open hoppers would have the wind swirling inside them. Thanks!

You might also want to check out "orerail.com". This is a Yahoo group that covers the railroads and the mines in Northeastern Minnesota. These serve Duluth, Superior, Two Harbors and Silver Bay. Mike

Saw Herbert Jackson at Soo Locks taking stone to Marquette. Got couple of nice shots at Locks. The Soo Ontario cam isn't working for some reason. I Love to watch the boats on it.

There are a lot of web sites dealing with trains. The big national one is trainorders.com. You have to subscribe to it to see the posted photos full screen and other benefits. For ones more specific to your area do a Google search for the name(s) of your local railroad along with your city name, etc.
