The protester's sign read "Work Preformed by employees of TTS of Texas and WYLIE of North Dakota who are not members of Iron Workers Local 6 AFL-CIO". The IWL #6 was used to unload the windmill barges at the same site back in 2007.

Buffalo Republic Dock Labor Issue

Regarding the recent union issue at the former Republic docks, I’m a little confused.

Exactly what out-of-state non-union labor was being protested? The tug crews, the dock workers, crane operator, the out of state (and allegedly non-union) workers who made the parts, all of these reasons or just some of these? And if these parts are ultimately headed to Michigan, how is this then a New York State project, as Halligan implied?

Couldn’t this local union issue have been avoided entirely if these Canadian made parts were just trucked to Pt. Colbourne and loaded onto a barge or ship there?

Is it safe to assume these protests will continue each time windmill parts are delivered upriver?
