As of Sunday morning it looks like the Cort is arriving Milwaukee and the Mesabi Miner arriving Bayship off the bay of Green Bay.. I would not go by the destinations listed on Marine Traffic. It's been showing the Sykes' as Port Inland for the last few weeks and it obviously hasn't been going there. The Cort was scheduled for a load at Superior Monday night, according to Duluth Shipping News, with the notation load may cancel, so that maybe what happened.

Never mind on the the Cort--at least for this trip! She passed Milwaukee right by! LOL! Anyone know when she's actually due in Milwaukee for winter layup? And if Burns Harbor is here for winter layup?

Hello everyone! Burns Harbor is at the Port of Milwaukee--she arrived yesterday evening. At MarineTraffic, it shows that she's due at Superior tomorrow, but with the locks getting ready to close, I'm thinking that may not be correct.
Anyway, is Burns Harbor in port for winter layup? Also, it looks like Stewart J. Cort may be headed this way for winter layup too. Does the Cort have another run or two, or is she headed our way?

These pics were capped from the Great Lakes Water Institute webcam. One can take 1st St. to Greenfield Ave and go east on Greenfield and drive right to the Great Lakes Water Institute and stand at the channel and see that same view. (Actually, that spot on Greenfield Ave. and the inner harbor is a great vantage point for the entire the inner harbor.) The GLWI cam is pointed north toward the curve from the main channel under Hoan Bridge. Another great spot for boatwatching is up behind the Summerfest grounds in the Hoan Bridge area. The very end down there by the lighthouse is actually a public park and puts you right at the entrance to the main channel. You can also access the other side of the inner harbor over by LaFarge and the salt dock, but alot of the roads over there are not in good shape. I mean, they're all basically passable, but some are very Rough! Most of the lakers use the inner harbor.Very seldom does a laker ever use the outer harbor slips. The outer harbor slips pretty much get used by salties.although salties do use the inner harbor as well.the Hermann Schoening (our last saltie of the year.you might recognise the name as the ship with the rat poison/sick crew issue) was at the grain elevator in the inner harbor.
Of course when St. Mary's Challenger or Prentiss Brown/St. Mary's Conquest is in town, they dock at the St. Mary's Cement terminal over on Kinnickinnic Ave (which is what 1st St. turns in to.I know that probably sounds confusing.but if you check Google Maps, you'll see what I'm talking about.) But this is less than 5 minutes from 1st and Greenfield. And when either vessel is here, they tie up with the bow pointed at the bridge, which does have pedestrian access (no parking, tho), so if you're willing to park the car (south of there is probably the easiest) and walk a little bit, you can stand right on the bridge in front of the ship and look or take pictures.

Sharyl, thanks for the Milwaukee updates, as I keep running up there regularly as my son is at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Nice to know what might be there to see.

Manistee just arrived. Here are some caps from the GLWI webcam of her backing in to the inner harbor. Again, not fantastic from a photography standpoint, but still not bad for webcam caps in the middle of the night! :-)

Wilfred Sykes is headed out. Here are a couple of caps of her from the GLWI webcam backing out of the inner harbor...they're really not great pictures, but for webcam pics in the middle of the night, they're really not too bad!

From what I can see at Marine Traffic, the Wilfred Sykes is in port at the coal dock, and it also looks like Manistee is headed "our" way too!
These two ships aren't frequent visitors to the Port of Milwaukee (the last time Wilfred Sykes was here, she was anchored in the outer harbor waiting out weather), so to have them both in port at the same time, especially at this time of the year, is a treat!
