Different Rate For Ore Shipped by Gearless Bulkers VS. S/Us?
Re: Different Rate For Ore Shipped by Gearless Bulkers VS. S/Us?
One feature of iron ore rates I remember was on hauls from the Quebec ports into the lakes, gear-less vessel rates would be lower if they had taken a load of grain outward. If the ships had to deadhead out to the lower St. Lawrence for ore, the rate was higher. Not sure if this applied to self-unloaders.

Is there a rate-differential between Ore carried by Self-Unloaders versus that carried by Straight-Deckers? I would imagine that since the Cargo Recipient has to unload the Gearless-Bulker himself, he pays a cheaper per-ton rate than that charged for an identical cargo carried by a Self-Unloader.
