If you like machines you just got to love the triple expansion steam engine. A symphony of moving parts with massive connecting rods and crank. Hissing steam, dripping oil and condensation. Never got tired of watching them on the Boblo Boats. Amazed at how quickly they could go from ahead to astern.

Not that I disagree, but on what do you base the claim that steamers are more reliable?

Yes steamers are quieter and for the most part more reliable but they're also a lot more thirsty too.

Very true. However, steamers are still more reliable than diesels and quieter.
