Last information that I received was that the tow was slated to start at 0400 hrs on Saturday.

From what I've seen on Facebook Heritage Marine is going to take her out of Fraser, then the McKeil will take her out. I know in the past with scrap tows the switch was made at the Port Terminal, but that's how it was done when the USS/GLF went on their tows.

How long after arriving at Duluth/Superior would it typically take to get hooked up to start the tow? Looking at where the tug is now (southern Lake Huron as of 2315 central time) I'd guess an arrival late morning Friday. Just wondering how long it would take to get things going for the tow after that. I'd like to get over there to see the American Victory go out for the last time. (Assuming that they'd go out under the bridge and not the Superior entrance.)

From what I've read and heard from friends, it never was going to Port Colborne, always going to Turkey for scrapping.

Futhermore.The windows being boarded up, is something you usually on see on ocean tows.

It's going to Turkey.

Not sure on the destination of the American Victory scrap tow but at the present time, the Algoway was told to IMS in Port Colborne not too long ago by the Evans McKeil. The point I’m trying to make is can they do two ships at IMS the Algoway at 650’ and the American Victory with its length of 730 feet? I guess what I’m trying to say is if there is enough room and space at IMS for both of them? Thanks for any updates on this or information.

Boom has been completely removed and the tug is in the Welland that will take the tow out of the Twin Ports.

Monday morning when I drove by the forward 2/3s of the boom had been taken off the deck and put on the dock.

10s of thousands of dollars of usefull equipment can still be transfered to another boat or sold. Lots of good stuff still viable.

Anyone have any insights as to what is still usable from an old steamer? I understand things like the boom, bow thruster, etc. How much else could be there that is useful for a fleet which has extensively modernized itself?

Why is it that ships going for srap are always renamed. Are Canadian rules for removing hazmat materials before sale for scrap non existant.

She has been stripped of alot of equipment. Looks like even the bow thruster will be removed

They were in the process of removing the bow thruster and the boom should be removed shortly.

The boom is still on, nothing noticeable has changed as of today.

I have been told that the American Victory is now displaying the name "Victo." I would assume that indicates an overseas tow as I don't believe I have seen such a renaming practice with demolition sales to domestic scrapyards. Doesn't really surprise me as there is probably a large amount of asbestos and other toxic substances aboard given the vessel's original age.
