Thecrane tow is making steady progress northward out of San Diego since departure the afternoon of Fri. Feb.6. At noon today they were making 7 knots on a generally westward heading in order to clear the cape and point near Vandenberg. Tonight they’re coming to the clearance needed and can swing round onto a more northerly heading.
About now they are making a little over 5 knots into a 6 mph NW breeze.Seas are running from the W in the high 7’- almost 8’ range. That’s likely, plus that NW breeze is why she’s moving slower. It is cloudy. The temp is in the mid 50’s.
Found a first!! For me at least! Video of the sail away from San Diego. It’s probably done by the port. Very good! I’ve forgotten the link!! Duh!
Will go back, try to find and post on here.

Well all good things have their limits. We can only hope the San Diego layover was good for the crew of Ocean Tower. They are back on the Pacific tonight. I estimate that they sailed out mid - late afteroon. They are steering a 313 course at 7 knots. Winds are SW at a steady 5 mph. Seas are running from the W at just under 8’. It is cloudy and 61 deg.F

No noticeable movement today as of yet.
Mr. Link has it as I do....final destination is Bremerton, Washington. That’s on Puget Sound.
I remember that city well as I lived on Fort Lewis near Tacoma between 1978 and 1979 and spent much time at Bremerton. The naval yard there was very active with both in commission warships and several idle ones awaiting final disposition. That included the USS Missouri that was later activated in the early 1980s and remained in service until just after the Gulf War. My last visit to the area in 2014 found the yard still very active. I found that staying in Port Orchard, right across the bay from Bremerton was very pleasant and offered many opportunities for anyone interested in naval ships and natural landscapes, while larger cargo ships can be seen at many sections of Puget Sound. A particularly interesting trip is to take one of the State of Washington car ferries from Bremerton to Seattle. When done during nice weather, this hour long journey allows for some beautiful photos of Mount Ranier.
Sorry about going a little off subject (and no I'm not affiliated in any way to the Washington State bureau of tourism), but it will be interesting to see the installation of this crane at Bremerton. This bodes well for the yard's future.

I believe the final destination is the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard at Bremerton, WA (across Puget Sound from Seattle.)
