When I was a youth a few decades ago, I watched one come from between South Bass and Kelleys Island and pass in front of Kelleys Island to the Marblehead Dock. Maybe I saw that twice in my life, but no more than that.

I'm watching the Gott and the Tregurtha heading east towards the Sault ....Is it first come , first served at the locks or how do they "line them up " ?

Sure, the boats race to the docks, locks, etc. Not as much as when there were 150 boats, but the captains still don't want to be behind a slow boat in the rivers, or have to go to anchor while waiting for a dock.

The Joe Thompson heading to Marblehead from the East, and the Manitowoc heading to Marblehead from the west[Toledo ].... The Manitowoc took a short cut between Put in Bay and Pelee Island.. I have not seen a boat come into Marblehead from the west. It seems they all take the deep water route to the North of Pelee Island. Joe Thompson won ! Thanks for any input..
