A 4 volume set called From America to United States - The History of Long Range Merchant Shipbuilding Programme of the United States Maritime Commission by L.A. Sawyer and W.H. Mitchell. The set was published over the years 1979 to 1986 by the World Ship Society in Great Britain. The books are amply illustrated with many black and white photographs of the USMC and all the ships built under their program right up until the building of the ocean liner United States (from about 1937 to about 1952). Since most of the hulls were gone by the 1980s the books have remained largely up to date.
