I see the Michipicoten is down bound Lake Superior from BNSF#5 with pellets again showing an AIS destination of Quebec City.

Interesting the Michipicoten's trip to Quebec City will be her first visit down the Seaway this year as up until now at least, she was the only LLT ship running this season not to make it down through the Seaway. Obviously that will change now that she is taking her ore cargo to Quebec City.

The Michipicoten once again loaded at BNSF#5. I checked her AIS and she is another boat showing a Quebec City destination. The Robert S. Pierson is currently inbound Superior for the ore dock. I'll be interested to see if her load goes to the Soo or also down the Seaway.
The AIS on the Pierson is showing Quebec City.

Michipicoten's loads in Marquette typically last about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

When I visited Duluth a few years ago, I was surprised at how fast the Michipicoten loaded at DM&IR at the city. I can't remember the exact number of hours but I thought I had more time and barely made it to the Duluth entry to capture its departure.

Like I've mentioned in other posts, on the Clarke in the 70's we had 3-3 1/2 hour loads. Hard to comprehend a load of just over 2 hours. The dock must be set up the same for every trip into Marquette.

It's definitely possible, especially since her carrying capacity does not exceed the tonnage that the dock silos can be pre-charged with. That means there's no need to start conveying in more pellets from the distant stockpile partway through the loading process.

My previous post I should have mentioned she loaded at BN#5 in Superior.

The Michipicoten is finally underway and AIS is showing her destination as being Marquette. She shows up on the Duluthboats.com site as loading pellets in Duluth on Sunday.

I just looked at AIS and see she's still sitting at Essar-Soo.

Stoneport is listed as destination by AIS.
The ais also says the Stoneport eta is 6/7.
The Duluth schedule shows it is expected there Thursday. Which means it would need to leave the Soo Wednesday.

I was wondering the same thing. Think she's been there for well over a week. Temporary lay-up? No ore by boat into Essar since the last trip she loaded here in Duluth. She is on the Duluthboats.com site loading here on Thurs. and again Sunday. Should be on the move again tonight or tomorrow.
