It was nice seeing Mike Nicholls photos. My father was born and raised in the Heidelberg/Mannheim area so it was good to see the vessel traffic on the Neckar River. As the poster noted, there is quite a number of U.S. military facilities in the area, such as the Patton Barracks and the Hammond Barracks, though they have been returned to the German government or will be soon.

Thanks for posting the photographs taken in Heidelberg in the News Photo Gallery. I lived outside of Heidelberg at Patrick Henry Village (PHV) from 1974 to 1978 while my father was attached to the US Army's headquarters there. I remember taking a ride on the river and visiting the large castle in the city on one occasion. The area had a really nice year-round climate and looking back at it now I really enjoyed the years I spent there.
