During most of February through April in 1979, the Edwin H. Gott was laidup at Two Harbors atcone of the ore docks undergoing repairs she sustained in her transit of a nearly completely frozen Lake Superior on mid-February of that year.

I do recall seeing in a book from the early 1970s photos of one of the AAAs laidup at one of the ore docks.

Speaking of memories, in the 60s there were a large number of outdated U S Steel ships that were tied up at the old Northern Pacific ore dock. Many went just across the harbor to be scraped in Duluth.
It was a sad sight to walk past these "veterans" waiting their fate.

In recent memory, the Arthur M. Anderson laid up at CN Dock 6 for the winter at the end of the 2016 season, then remained there for all of 2017 and 2018 and part of 2019 before returning to service.

Re: Superior ore docks - Not winter lay up, but circa 1978 US Steel had a number of no longer in use boats tied up there. D.M. Clemson is the only one that I can name, not sure how many others were there.

When USS had the big fleet of 600 foot boats they used to squeeze nine of them in between the westerly chute dock and the Hallet dock. In more recent years (maybe ten years back) in the same slip, I remember seeing two ASC boats tied up for the Winter. I'm sure there is a photo of the USS laid up boats floating around. It is kind of like the strike-tie-up-there photo that was recently posted, but that photo included the Spear and the Gott.

I am wondering if there has ever been a Laker that layed up for the winter at the Superior ore dock or the Duluth CN/DMIR docks? I seem to recall seeing ships at the Duluth docks for the winter.
