Here is a photo I took of the Sloan in her limestone color in the early 70's downbound at Port Huron
.

Pretty sure while all that was going on with the conversion they were repairing hull damage from the grounding around Mackinaw in late '66. She was towed to Fraser that September. It's my understanding that mishap sent the Captain into retirement.

In fact, while the George A. Sloan was undergoing conversion at Fraser Shipyard in May 1967, she was also re-painted in the grey Bradley fleet hull colour.

In a book about the history of Fraser Shipyard, titled, "In the Yard" by Patrick Lapinski, there are two photos of the George A. Sloan partially repainted in grey.

I found several photos of the Sloan in Bradley colors in my collection.

The Sloan received the gray paint job when it was converted to a self-unloader in 1966 and carried that paint scheme until 1990 when it got painted red with the stripes on the bow like the fleetmates.

Sloan was painted grey after she was converted to a self unloader and became part of the Bradley subsidiary and remained grey until the early 90s when she was painted in the current GLF colors until her sale to Lower Lakes towing in the spring of 2000 along with the Myron C Taylor and Calcite II.

It was painted gray when it was part of the Rogers city fleet of what were known as the Bradley boats, or Michigan limestone fleet or, calcite boats or, as I knew them , stone boats and maybe a few names I never knew. I think it Remained gray in color I believe until USS sold out to CNR.

Was the Sloan ever painted USS grey when it served as part of the USS/Pittsburgh Steamship Co fleet?

If it was painted grey, does anyone know which years it was grey?
