The Public-Access area offers an excellent place from which to view Lakers. To get to it, take the Hwy. 249 Exit off of I-94. Turn North onto Hwy 249 to the Port of Indiana (signs at the Exit's end also show the way). Stay on 249, and you will reach the Port. At the guardhouse at the Port entrance, Stop & they will ask to see your Driver's License. Tell them that you want to go to the Public-Access Site (if you are bringing a camera - Hide it - they frown on picture-taking). The guard will let you enter. Drive straight North down the main road. After about a half mile, you will cross some train tracks. Turn Right and you are there. Across from the Site is the Acerlor-Mittal Burns Harbor Dock (the Stewart J. Cort & Burns Harbor tie-up there). You also have a good view of the Cargill Dock, and anything in thee East Arm of the Port. Immediately in front of you is the Great Lakes Towing Dock. Usually, there are 2 Tugs docked there.
