no, canadian lakers go to the lower st lawrence river to sept iles, east coast {newfoundland stc.} the cooling water for the engines is just that..water, whether its fresh or salt it works just the same. frozen water is not recommended!

If the story of the Herbert C. Jackson sailing to Florida were true would adjustments have to be made to the engines due to ocean salt water?
