Thanks for posting this, I remember it well! My son and I were on that cruise. Fortunately some good samaritans helped us tie up to a private dock!

We were quite sad that Diamond Jacks retired that cruise; we enjoyed it for many years. The silver lining for us is we then discovered Engineer’s Day at the Soo Locks and have been going annually ever since!

it was 12 yrs ago that the diamond belle expierced engine problems on the memorial day cruise from detroit to port huron. it took 3 charted highway coachs to bring the passengers back to detroit and a gaelic tugboat to tow the belle to detroit for engine repares.the repairs were in place in a couple of days but that was the end of all trips to port huron. nw adays they stay between the ambassador bridge and belle isle. as archie bunker woul say, those were the days.
