Hosing them off is of little use because there are literally thousands more ready to take their place.
One of the challenges of living in the area of the shallow western end of Lake Erie is the shallow waters are perfect breeding grounds for them.
You hit the main concern which is the slick they leave when walking or driving around.

shavel them over the side then hose down the deck and suoerstructer. the ferry to pelee island is white when mayflys are on it, it appears to be black. luckly they dont bite and its only for a couple of days. in leamington they use a snow plow to move them off the road

Yes they are a dangerous nuisance on the ship as well as on shore. We hosed down extra times to deal with the mess and slippery conditions. Sure crunch under your feet! The fish love ‘em.

The picture of the mayflies all over the ship is unbelievable, that must pose a safety hazard as I would assume it would be really slick if you walked on them! They must hose them off to get ride of them.
