i would imagine the source of the problem was the generator. the fog probably didnt help but that wouldnt cause the generator to malfunction. maybe sucked something into the cooling water intake. in the 70s we had that problem in the summer while anchored at montreal. a steamer, nice and quiet then a blackout and the emergency diesel generator kicked in. the cooling water in take was jamed with debris from the river!

There was a power failure. What was the source of the failure and did take down her steering? Was the fog of any consequence?
