Auburn Mine, Mesabi Range

Not so long ago the Auburn Mine was still operating (around 2000) very near Virginia, MN. It was one of the last operating natural ore mines that I know of. Anyone know if it was the very last operating natural ore mine in MN? Or even the U.S.? I believe it may have closed operations around 2002 or so.
