I don't think so. In the Corps of Engineers Waterborne Commerce program, we're only interested in vessels making commercial moves of commodities. Documentation with the USCG should be enought - they are becoming the owners of the 'database of record' for commercial vessels for the federal government.

Laken's tug Cleveland and barge Cleveland Rocks are currently laid up at Toledo, Ohio at the Ironhead Shipyard. Neither have run in 2010.

I'm new to this site. I work in the Navigation Planning Center of the US Army Corps of Engineers in Huntington WV. We're part of Lakes & Rivers Division, which includes the Ohio River Basin and the Great Lakes. We're also the Planning Center of Expertise for Inland Navigation for the Corps. http://inlandwaterways.lrh.usace.army.mil/

One of our responsibilities is the collection and processing of Waterborne Commerce Statistics for the 170 or so vessel operators headquartered in the Great Lakes and Ohio River Basin. This includes inland operators from the largest barge and towboat operators (like Ingram Barge, American Commercial Lines, AEP River Operations) to the smallest operators with one townoat. This also includes the American companies operating vessels on the Great Lakes like American Steamship, Interlake Steamship, Great Lakes Fleet, Andrie, etc.
We have not heard from Laken Shipping in 2010, and numerous attempts to contact them have failed. According to our records they own the tug Cleveland and the barges Cleveland Rocks and Cleveland Flats.

Any information anyone can provide on the company or its vessels would be much appreciated. We're not looking to levy any fines or penalties; we just want to know what happened to the vessels in case some other entity should be reporting their activity.

Thanks - I really enjoy looking at your site and using it for research on the companies and vessels. I'll share a link to the Navigation Data Center site. http://www.ndc.iwr.usace.army.mil//
