Re: Ships steel
Would imagine that all steel used in the construction of ships for the US Navy is sourced from American mills.
Re: Ships steel
The following US steel mills currently mention producing plate products on their websites:
Cleveland Cliffs (Burns Harbor and Gary, IN) : https://www.clevelandcliffs.com/operati ... ary-plate
Nucor (mills in North Carolina, Kentucky and Alabama): https://nucor.com/products/steel/plate#
JSW Steel (Mingo Jct, OH and Baytown, TX): https://jswsteel.us/carbon-steel-plate/
SSAB (mill in Montpelier, Iowa): https://www.ssab.com/en/company/about-s ... b-americas
Didn't see any mention on US Steels website for plates. Lots of sheet products however.

Re: Ships steel
I believe ship steel comes from US Steel mill in Gary and the Cliffs steel mill in Indiana Harbor. Nucor produces ship late steel, too. US Steel's Great Lakes Fleet used high-strength T1 (A514) steel along the waterline at the bow and hip areas of their vessels as reinforcement in ice during the Winter Navigation Program in the 1970s. I know that Edwin H. Gott was built with T1 high-strength steel on her bow, and I'm sure the Edgar B. Speer is so equipped, too.

Re: Ships steel
I believe steel used to construct the Mark W. Barker came from Mittal/Cliffs in Burns Harbor.

Ships steel
Which mill/steel company makes the steel to build a ship in the states
On another forum someone was saying all the steel comes from China, which i highly doubt as true
I'm guessing it's a specialized steel.
Thank you
