If anyone knows how I can order a copy of the 50th anniversary Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Fred Stonehouse in Canada, or a company that sells to Canadians, then please let me know. I've tried Avery Color Studios website, and it's impossible to order a copy if you live in Canada.

Amazon Canada doesn't have any copies of the newest edition.

I thought Bacon's book was excellent. It tells the stories of the people - the crew, their families and their descendants. It was written after full cooperation and interviews with family members and the full support of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. Please read the book and decide for yourself. I have read pretty much every Fitz book ever and I rank this one near the top of the list.

I do wish the name was different than that of the Hemming book, though that might have been the publisher's decision.

Thanks everyone for the great viewpoints, responses and replies to my questions about the new Fitzgerald Books and Magazines as I appreciate them. So, it sounds like many of you are saying that Fred Stonehouse’s updated 50th anniversary edition of his book on the Fitzgerald is at or near the top of the list along with the book The Legend Lives On by Chris Winters and Bruce Lynn and there was a third one mentioned by a gentleman that purchased a copy while aboard the Badger ferry. Looking for these books and titles, I’ve found them all on the Web and Fred Stonehouse has his on the Avery Color Studios website along with another book about the Fitzgerald also on Avery as well. That is the book that a gentleman said he got aboard the Badger. Not the Stonehiuse one but the other that is shown on the Avery website. Both books from Avery will fit into my budget plans as far as Christmas ideas go. However, the one by Chris Winters and Bruce Lynn might be a bit too much for my Christmas budget this year. I may only be able to get two for Christmas and I think the two on the Avery website appear to be a couple of goodies. Many of you have talked about the book by John Bacon recently released as not too good then. That was also on my list but at $35.00 then for a hardcover book, that might be too much for my Christmas list right now. I suppose that in time, they may consider making that book into a softcover and perhaps less expensive then as well. Looking on the Web, I don’t see or show too many magazines with articles on the Fitzgerald other than those mentioned in my earlier post. The one in Lake Superior Magazine from Duluth I want to get for sure if my local Barnes & Noble ever gets it in and they don’t sell out of it. I don’t know of other magazines that would have any stories or articles. Anyone know which ones might then? Thanks again for any help, answers to my questions and information anyone has on any of this.

I think the best book on the Edmund Fitzgerald is the "Legend Lives On" by Bruce Lynn and Christopher Winters from the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society. Really, other than interviews with family members, which is interesting, there is not a lot more that can be written about the Edmund Fitzgerald that hasn't been written already.

The 50th anniversary book about the Fitzgerald by Fred Stonehouse sounds very interesting, so I may buy a copy of it - if Amazon Canada has it available.

I was 11 years-old when the Fitz sank, and in the nearly 50 years since my views and perspective of the Edmund Fitzgerald story has changed. I work in the meteorological field, so I look at it from a different perspective than most do. The finding of back issues of Mariners Weather Log from on the internet that are available from various universities made me aware of weather observations from many US great lakes vessels, including the Edmund Fitzgerald.

I attended the book signing in AA. Asked him many questions about his research and statements and opinions thst he espoused on Detroit channel 2 and 7 interviews. I found him to be lacking in a real understanding of the entire tragedy. He stated that the northern route was not a common route and that perhaps McSorely wasnt as familiar with it🤦🏼‍♂️. He also said taking the northern route was a mistake as it gave the storm time to increase intensity and in the extra 14 hours it takes to travel that route. He also stated that hatch clamps can be observed closed on the wreck so thst dispells the theory that they didn’t cause the sinking. How many hatch covers can actually be seen in the wreckage ? Very few. When I told him I sailed the lakes for 38 yrs and retired as captain he declined to continue our talk. Especially when I told him I was in that storm on another vessel.there were other parts I pressed him on but he cut out talk. I found him to be am amateur on this tragedy and seemed it was a “ sensational” approach to be a star and just earn$. He presented nothing new except his distorted views and almost childish opinions. Apparently he is a well known author on many non marine subjects. I advise him to stick to what he knows as his effort on the Fitz is not good. Additionally , he basically stole the title by just changing a few words from Robert Hemings 1st gales of November in 1981. Sorry but this version is a waste of time and in my opinion somewhat fraudulent. Just my 2 cents worth.

Just curious, did you actually read the book?

Yes, I too bought the kindle version. I give him credit for his work on some parts and his ability to find and interview families But overall I was not impressed. Nothing new was offered. Just read as entertainment. Was not impressed.

I just bought the Kindle version of the book, "The Gales of November: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by John U. Bacon. I've only gotten as far as page 127 of 442. I'm not sure how I feel about book from what I've read so far. He jumps from one expert to another but doesn't really develop want to go into depth about a particular aspect of the Edmund Fitzgerald story, so I'm hoping it will get better as I read further.

The first parts of the book talks about the 1913 storm, the sinking of the Carl D. Bradley and Daniel J. Morrell, as is typical about books on the Fitzgerald.

With this being the 50th Anniversary of the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald next month in November, I happened to do some searching and I came upon much information about new books and magazines articles pertaining to the loss of the Fitzgerald 50 years ago. Could someone, anyone please in full mode and details here please 🙏 give and provide any type of information on any new books on the Fitzgerald this year along with any magazines and articles that have anything on the Fitz? Yes I do now about the KYS Extra Magazine as I have a couple of copies of it already. As for books, I’ve found that Fred Stonehouse has a new updated one along with a new book that just recently was released by John Bacon recently and now I see that authors Chris Winters and Bruce Lynn are both doing an updated version adding in a few extra pages to their book that they released just a few short years ago. Regarding magazines and articles, Lake Superior Magazine I know has done an article on the Fitz but, I can’t find it in any B&N Bookstores yet. I see that Smithsonian and a few other magazines have done stories on the Fitzgerald. Basically boatnerds, I’m hoping and trying to get any and all information that I can on any new books and magazines on the Fitzgerald before they are gone and Sold Out! You could say also, never too soon or early to start doing your Holiday and Christmas Shopping. Any information from anyone will surely be appreciated along with any website links and prices for books and magazines and titles along with where to find them at. Thanks in advance.
