From information on the Port Reports for February 15, the Frontenac is not laid up in Sarnia as they departed from the Government Dock on February 14 to proceed down to Windsor, Ontario to load more salt. As of 12:15 a.m. on February 15, they are currently at anchor in the Recors Anchorage in the St. Clair River having arrived at anchor on February 14.

With the Frontenac now laid up in Sarnia, just how much longer will Goderich be shipping salt this Winter on the Intrepid and Niagara? I would think at some point one of them possibly both but, one for sure should be going into lay up at some point eventually. Don’t know if this makes any difference or not, now as the temperatures are finally 🙏 starting to warm up I just wonder how much longer Goderich will be shipping salt out on the Algoma ships? With the warmer temps now, I would think anyway that the salt demand should start going down as the temps start to warm up unless I’m missing something here? Here in Michigan, there were many places that were crying because they used up more salt this year than last year and last season and Winter. I think the thing is, many of these cities and places got their salt supplies from the mild Winter we had last year not realizing or thinking about if we ever had a bad and hard Winter like this year has been. Next year could be interesting because after this Winter, you’ll probably see many places stock up on salt supplies yet next Winter you never know as we may not be using as much as this Winter. Time will tell on that one though!

The Frontenac has now tied up at Sarnia. BTW, there is a push by some municipalities to ban exports of salt to the US, due to the severe shortages municipalities have been encountering in Ontario this Winter. A large number of snowplow companies have stopped providing plowing services in some areas of Ontario, due to lack of availability of salt, and that they have to mix what they have with sand - which increases their liability if someone gets hurts (a fall) due to their reduction in salt usage.

Must be lots of ice in Goderich I see the Algoma Intrepid as been trying to get in for a couple of days now The Frontenac was right behind her
But now seems to be moving off Niagara out at anchor Anyone in the area to maybe get some photos
In January 79 we spent 10 days on the Algoway stuck at the breakwater We ran fire hoses ashore to get water and packed stores across the ice
It was quite the experience
