Laker unloading on the rouge

Re: Laker unloading on the rouge
Yes that is correct as indeed they are laid up in Erie. I’m so used to a few of the Grand River ships laying up in Ashtabula that I had forgotten the Calumet was laid up in Erie this winter! Thanks Guest for that correction and update.

Yes I know what the Algoma new builds look like. Didn’t get a good look but sure did appear to have the gray stacks 🤷. Didn’t have time to get a closer look.

Re: Laker unloading on the rouge
It was not the Calumet that you saw as they are still laid up in Ashtabula, Ohio according to the Marine Traffic website since about late January. You might have seen maybe an Algoma vessel unloading salt in Detroit? The one you probably saw may have been the Algoma Niagara as she delivered salt to Detroit recently from Goderich. The Algoma Niagara has sort of a deep dark blue hull color although I say at times, that blue color looks black to me! Anyway, Algoma Niagara is a Seaway-Max Self-Unloading vessel at 740 X 78 and built in China in 2017. She is one of 12 ships in Algoma’s Equinox-Class series which began in 2012 with their first ship Algoma Equinox itself which began service in 2013. The Algoma Niagara has an aft mounted self-unloader. Hope this helps out.

Laker unloading on the rouge
Going over the I75 rouge river bridge today I spotted what looked like a grand river nav boat unloading maybe salt. It’s difficult to tell as the bridge walls obscure most of the river. It was unloading onto the south bank between the bridge and fort st draw bridge. Maybe calumet is out?
