Don't know where you got your information but according to this site the largest laker is Paul R. Treurtha 1013.5 X 105 X 56 68 000 Tons and Wikipedia says the largest Valemax is 1188 X 213 X 98 - 400 000 DWT. The dimensions are very different in beam and depth and therefore capacity.

The vale max are 1180 feet X 213 which is longer than a laker and twice the beam at least and if 27 foot draught is 60,000 tons you cannot say that at 400,000 tons the draught is 61/2 times more;it does not work like that

According to the quick internet search I did, the Valemax vessels are roughly 1180 feet long by 213 feet wide and 98 feet deep and designed to load to a 75 foot draft. So that's 180' longer, twice as wide and 2.7 times the draft.

Looking at these Iron Ore carriers that Vale is building (or built) to haul ore to China, I wonder a couple things. How Can a ship with close to beam and length of Great Lakes foooters haul up to 6 times as big of tonnage load. A Footer has about 27 foot draft for 60,000 tons. Does this mean they have 180 foot drafts fully loaded ?'
