Public Safety Reminder Concerning Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaking Operations in Owen Sound Harbour February 4, 2011
-------------------------------------------------------
SARNIA, ON The Canadian Coast Guard wishes to inform people living in the Owen Sound area that icebreaking operations will begin in the Owen Sound Harbour on or about February 7 2011.
The purpose of this yearly operation is to escort a commercial ship into Owen Sound. The Coast Guard strongly recommends that pedestrians, fishers and snowmobilers get off the ice when they see a vessel or icebreaker in the area. The ice may move, and this may create a real danger for anyone in the area. The tracks and other resulting open-water areas may remain open and unstable for a significant length of time after the passage of the ships.
