years back I toured Bayship during winter layup thanks to friendly shipkeeper I met thru this site. The boats are well secured. He told me due to insurance requirements there are an ungodly number of lines required to secure the vessel, the number 13 comes to mind, but I could be off by a couple.

If they leave water in the tanks, water can freeze over the winter. When water freezes, it expands which could damage the tanks and the hull of the vessel.

Boats in layup?

Unread post by Cathy »

I noticed in today's pix the 3 boats laid up in SB are all riding high out of the water. The same is true of the JW Sherwin laid up in DeTour. Is this done because of CG Regulations against ballast water in the boat? It just seems to me that when they ride that high, they would "kite" without ballast and be more difficult to secure at the docks. TIA for any/all of your techno answers
