I suppose that the fastest time varies with routes. As stated in another post, I would bet the LE holds the overall fastest. Viking has been mentioned as the fastest of the conventinal ferries. The City of Saginaw and City of Flint were greyhounds too. I beleive the City of Flint holds the Milwaukee to Ludington time record by about one minute over the City of Saginaw.

While I'm not sure anyone kept records, it is likely the Viking would have made the best time of the standard ferries. She reportedly had a cruising speed in excess of 20 knots. Badger cruises at about 18 knots.

I imagine the Lake Express would have he fast time. They say they cross from Muskegon to Milwaukee in 2 1/2 hours.

Fastest Ferry Crossing Question

Unread post by Mueller »

Hello boatnerds,

I'm wondering if anyone has any information regarding whether or not there was ever a record kept of the fastest ferry crossing on Lake Michigan (East/West).

Thanks so much!
