Could there be a great cover-up going on? The seas of November on Lake Superior have nothing to do with weather, but everything to do with whale mating season? The tragic shipwrecks of November have been caused by Lake Superior whales ramming freighters, mistaking them for mates? This could be an X-File! Where's Mulder and Scully when you need them?

another reason for the fluctuations of water level on tne lakes is the fact in the fall till late spring is the fact that so many boats are taken out of the water and not replaced till late spring. this accounts for lower water levels in the fall and higher levels in the spring. sound logical? never too late to learn. a scientific study to follow

I'm wondering if this mysterious pod of gigantic whales might be the reason so many of Lake Superiors important shipwrecks have never been found. They were lost in the deepest parts of the lake...i.e, Bannockburn, D M Clemson, the French Minesweepers, Western Reserve..one can only wonder, lol

When I sidescanned Lake Superior the magnetism and treacherous bottom destroyed my image. Maybe it was these whales. Time to call in the Japanese.

Report by US & Canadian Agencies Debunks Science

A study issued today by NOAO and DFC contradicts long-held beliefs about Great Lakes water level fluctuations.

For many years water level fluctuations on the Great Lakes were believed to be the result of snow melt, rainfall and
ice cover during successive winters. DFC representative Marie-Claire Poisson, Phd, admits that the long-held beliefs
are a minor cause in the fluctuations and that we should not discount them entirely. However, she said the main cause
of water level changes is the Lake Superior whale pod.

“New studies undertaken over the last 15 years have determined that this pod of whales have a tremendous influence
on Great Lakes water levels.” Dr Poisson stated.

“I agree with my colleague”. added Dr David Crockof of NOAO. "While it may sound strange we all know how
science frequently debunks previous theories when new evidence is discovered." said the scientist.

When asked how the Lake Superior whales affect water levels both scientists went to great lengths to explain.

According to the scientists this pod of whales was only discovered in the early part of the 21st century. They surface infrequently
and are seldom seen by passing sailors. "Lake Superior is extremely deep and the pod seems to inhabit the very bottom
of the lake. Until recently we could not understand how the whales could remain submerged for months on end
but a serendipitous discovery of a partial carcass has allowed us to study these whales more fully." Crockof stated.

“The whales are larger than anything currently alive on earth, including the mighty Blue Whale”, Crockof said, "and they
have a lung capacity unlike anything we have ever seen before. Even more surprising is the fact that they also have
rudimentary gills that allow the whales to take oxygen directly from the water, thereby negating the need to surface
for air.”

It turns out this only accounts for the whales' ability to remain unseen and unknown for centuries but not their ability to affect
water levels on the Great Lakes. “We were stunned by the size of the creature we discovered.” murmured Dr Poisson.
"This one whale, which we estimated to be over 500 years old, could hold over 3 million gallons of water and food in its stomach.”
she said. “A side-scan sonar survey indicates there are at least 400,000 of these creatures currently living in the depths
of Lake Superior.” she affirmed.

“Our evidence indicates that these whales consume tremendous amounts of water from the lake and use this water to
digest the many hundreds of tons of food they take in each day. And the food,” Poisson stated, “is not fish or micro-
biological life - but rocks!”

The scientists believe that the Lake Superior whale pod population fluctuates on the same time scale as the observed Great Lakes
water levels. “So it is our conclusion”, they stated with straight faces “that when the whale population is at its height
they have ingested so much water and rock that the Great Lakes water levels necessarily go down. As the whale population
suffers a cyclical decline the release of all this water and rock from their digestive systems restores the Great Lakes to its former
high water levels.”

When asked where they received their Phd degrees Dr Crockof mumbled something about the University of Tuktoyaktuk and
Dr Poisson said the government of the day forbade her from saying anything about this.
